blog change

Hey to all of you who visit here and to all of you who wander occassionally...I have started a new blog.  I plan to add all of these posts to my new blog.  Why change, you may ask?  Well, I wanted a blog host that would allow me to do more with my blog and I just didn't like my blog name.  I am a creative spirit and this name does not show that or do my justice.  So...I created the new blog named The Creative Cranny.  It's hosted by WordPress.  The website is creativecranny.wordpress.com. Please, come visit me there!!!  Ta ta for now.

Large full korker

This is a large korker bow. It's very full and bouncy. It would look great above a pony tail or on the side of the head. I'd love to see this on a baby. It would look precious. The baby would look like the present he/she is.

Pinktastic Crocheted Hat

I made this little hat the other day. A good friend of mine is having a baby girl. I thought this would be perfect for a gift. My G wants one in her size, so I guess I better go get some more yarn. It's made with a lightweight peaches brand yarn. One skein will make one hat and flower.

Another good friend is helping her community host a craft show. I told her I'd like to have a booth. So, I'm trying to make some items I can sell. I'm thinking this hat would be great. I need to make a hat for teens too, without the ruffle, lol.

Chick Fil A time management crochet hat

So, my daughter gets kind of bored at home. I decided to go to Chick Fil A for lunch and let her play for a while, a long while. While I was sitting there with nothing to do, I made this hat. It's too cute, huh? Let me know what you think. Maybe I'll do a give away for one of these babies.

Bright Lightenin' Quilt

Sorry I've been gone a while. After my last quilt top I needed a break. I have to admit, I was a bit depressed. That last top was just plain ugly. Hey, I calls 'em as I sees 'em! But, I am revived. Here is one of my quilt blocks. This one's my favorite. Let me know what you think. I'll post more tomorrow, I hope. Plus I hope to finally get to that korker bow tutorial I've promised a bit back.

Kids Indoor Tent

Okay, I found this tent tutorial when I was out surfing the web. (It's what I do whenever I need to take the dog outside for a break.) and I thought, this is great and will be fabulous in G's room. Maybe she'll even hang out in there. So tonight I went and got all of the supplies. I'll post as soon as I get it assembled. Hopefully tomorrow. Check out the tutorial here

My puppy update

So, my puppy, Pocket, is starting to get the hang of this having a family stuff. He usually doesn't bark to loud or too long at night when it's bedtime. (The first few nights were brutal.) he goes potty outside half the time, and according to what I've read, that's normal. I'm kind of ready for him to be out of the puppy stage already. But he sure is darling when he bounces through the yard or slides around the house on our hard wood floors. My daughter has really taken to spoiling him, too. (Shhh...we are pretending she is the only one who spoils him. Lol.)

Remember my fat quarter loot?

So, do you remember? It was just a couple of days ago. I turned those fat quarters into this colorful fall quilt top. I'm not sure if I really love it yet. My dad would say, "That's a bit loud, don't cha think?" what do you think? Leave me a comment and tell me whether to quilt it or scrap it.

The other side of the cut n press

This is the cutting side of the coolest quilting gadget ever!!!

My new favorite find

My new product find was this cool pressing board/cutting mat from hobby lobby. One side has the cutting mat and the other side has the foam filled ironing mat. I Love, Love, Love it! It was $32.00 at Hobby Lobby, but with the weekly 40% off coupon, I only paid $23.00 including tax for it. If you are a quilter who has limited space for quilting, you MUST get one of these. It makes quilting so much easier.

More Loot from BigLots

I found some one yard cuts of coordinating fabrics. I'm thinking some boutique clothes for my G! Of course, when I get them done she can model them for the blog!

My BigLots Loot

Get a load of my fat quarter find!!! I went to Big Lots today to mill around, and what do I find? Fabric. I am psyched. Now I need to find a fat quarter pattern and get to sewing. These are going to be a quilt. A wonderful, fall colored quilt. I will be sure to post when the quilt is done. Happy quilting y'all.

Sisters Playing House: Book of the Month: The Hunger Games
I get so excited when someone finds a new book they just love. Read her review of the hunger games book-not the movie. (ps the book is way better.)

My New Adventure

Yesterday, my family and I went on a drive to pick up the cutest puppy I've ever seen. His name is Pocket, because he's pocket sized. Lol! Cheesy, I know, but absolutely cute. He is a maltipoo puppy. My posts might be a tad bit preoccupied with him for a few days as we get used to each other. I'm going to give this whole bell training thing a go. I'll update to let y'all know how it's going. Sorry his pic is blurry. He just won't be still for long this morning.

black and lime green boutique bow

I made this bow according to the boutique bow tutorial I posted on here earlier. Pretty, isn't it.

Another Korker Bow

I finally think I've figured out a system to putting together a korker bow. I'm preparing a tutorial for this weekend. So, for now, enjoy the view of this bow.

Another Large Korker

This beautiful zebra ladybug colored bow will also be worn by a softball player. (I promise it's a different girl... No, really, it is.) This bow is sold. Even though some are sold, I can make one the same or similar if you'd like to contact me. Just shoot me an email and we'll work out the details. (mamajillof2@gmail.com)

Korker Bow Size Difference

These korker bows show the difference in size. The bigger bow is the large size and it measures on average 5" across. The smaller is my little bow, it's small size. It measures on average 2 to 2 1/2 inches across. I usually sell the small bows in pairs for braids and piggy tails. They are adorable for little girls wearing piggys. But, I have no problem letting go of just one bow instead of a pair. This large bow is sold to a softball player who wanted some extra flair on the field.

Ladybug stipple quilt

I haven't posted in a few days, and since it is the end of the school year and I'm a teacher, I thought I'd talk about a quilt I made a few years ago. This quilt is a recycle project of old jeans. My family actually wore these jeans! I appliquéd the lady bugs onto the jeans and pieced them together. (This is by no way a perfect quilt. It was an earlier quilt.) this was one of my first stipple quilts. I'm still learning about this technique. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Tutorial Boutique Hair Bow

Tutorial Boutique Hair Bow

I'm going to show you how to build this boutique hair bow.

First, gather your supplies...
Next, Measure your base bow.  I keep my lengths around five (5) inches and give each edge a slant cut.  This makes it easier to prepare the ends for anti-fray.
Prepare the ends to avoid fraying.  There are a few options to choose from to accomplish this.  I prefer to use a flame.  I use the lighter in the picture above.  You just want to get the edges close to the flame, if you get it into the flame, you can actually light the ribbon on fire.  If that happens, just blow it out...don't freak out whatever you do.

Layer the cuts into a fan like fashion. Then, sew the layers together while pinching the middle of the layers.  Then, sew your base bow together.  Set aside for use later.

Now proceed to your next bow in the stack.  You measure approximately 24 inches of ribbon, cut it, and prepare the ends.  Then fold the ribbon in half and press the fold so that you can see the fold when you unfold it.

Using the fold, create a figure 8.  Then you bring in the two loops, pinch, and sew into the bow.

Figure 8

Both loops brought in
Bring in the loops

Pinch in the center
Sew it secure

After you finish this bow and add it to the base, create your top bow.  Start the same way you did the last one...measure, fold, press. Then bring up two other loops and secure.  Don't forget to fix the ends of the ribbon so they won't fray.
Put them all together and cover the thread with a ribbon knot.

Simple Boutique Hair Bow

This is an example of my simple one ribbon hair bow. It's put together like a boutique style bow. It looks just darling in hair or precious paired with another for pigtails. I'll post G wearing some at a late date. For now, enjoy. I'll do a tutorial this week on how to assemble the bow.

Boutique Hair Bow

Below you will find my latest obsession. I sat for a while and whipped up a few hair bows. This is one of my creations. I would love to sell these bows, so I could buy more ribbon and keep creating. I'd be happy to sell them. Just email me and we can settle on your colors etc.

Crochet Flower

I crocheted the cutest flower and put it on a crochet hat I made. I gave this one to my niece last Christmas. I have to say, it's beautiful, at least I think so. What do you think?

Cute quilt from thoughts of a sah mom

So there's this fabulous quilt on thoughts of a stay at home mom blog. If I don't win the quilt, I'm going to have to see me one. It's a beautiful picnic style quilt. I'm in love with the fabric. Can't wait to see the little girls dress tutorial! Check it out!

Cute Summer Dress

I made this summer dress for my sister in law. She wore it to a wedding last weekend where she was a brides maid. It isn't your typical brides maid dress, but it turned out fantastic. It looked so beautiful in her. What do you think?

Mt Nebo Waterfall Shot

This waterfall wasn't thick with water this particular day, but it was magnificent none the less. We were able to go under it and feel the water dripping over the rock ledge. It was refreshingly cold. Splashing it on my face was like gulping a large ice water. If you ever get close, you must see it for yourself!

Mt Nebo Hike-March

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted anything. We've been settling into our new house. My husband and I took a break the weekend of B's birthday; we went hiking, just the two of us. Here's a few pictures of our hike on Mount Nebo.

B's quilt material

Okay, so B has been sad. He wants a quilt of his own. I made G a quilt, and he looked at me with a sad frumpy face and asked, "When are you gonna make me one?" So of course, I replied, "You want one? Let's start picking out colors." Therefore, here they are. I'm planning on making a modified turning twenty quilt. I'll be sure to post a picture of it as soon as I make it.

One with my hubby holding G's Quilt

My wonderful hubby held it up for me so I could snap a quick pic. Thanks Hubby! (Don't you see his feet? I thought that was too funny. He didn't. But they're there anyway.)

A picture of G's finished quilt

Here's a picture of G's finished quilt. It came together rather quickly. I just did a fast stitch in the ditch for the quilting. She said she wanted it to be fluffy.

Quilting G's quilt

I actually got around to quilting this quilt for my girl last Friday. Here's a picture of it on my domestic machine.

My New Bag

I saw a bag in one of the quilts and more magazines recently, and I thought to myself, I can just make me a bag. So, of course, I put my own spin on it, and here's what I came up with. I absolutely love it!!!

Fabric And Material Tutu

I had a bunch of scraps and tule lying around, so I thought I'd make a tutu. Going off of a picture, I threw this one together in under about an hour.
Oh and the beautiful girl is my G.

My Quilt

This is the fabric I'm planning to make into my quilt...a quilt for me...only for me... If I ever get time, that is. You quilters out there know what I'm talking about, right?

My Sewing/Crafting Corner

I'm trying to get ready to move. We are waiting to close on a house in a quaint town about 70 miles away. My husband has been working there for about 18 months. He stays there during the week and comes home on the weekends. We finally decided to make the move; I'm just waiting for my teaching contract to finish out this year.
Anyway, the cause for this post-I'm cleaning, reorganizing, packing my crafting/sewing stuff... Below is a picture of how it looks now. I know it is messy, but it always gets worse before it gets better, right?

The Pink Zebra Bow

bow
This is by far my favorite hair bow I've made yet. With animal zebra print being all the rage, I just knew my G would love it! It's her go to bow. She loves to wear it, and when anyone comments on it, she loves to say, "My mommy made it." Then I always follow up with, "Thanks."
